What does infrared inspection offer?

  • Find moisture sources and water intrusion problems quickly
  • Water damage evaluation (penetrating/non-penetrating) and drying verification
  • Locate heating & cooling losses with pinpoint accuracy
  • Typical thermal patterns associated with insulation defects
  • Locate insect infestation in homes and buildings.
  • Indoor and outdoor building inspection
  • Fast, non-invasive, safe - minimizes need for building disassembly
  • Minimize disturbance of occupants and ongoing operations
  • Verify completed repairs for assurance
  • Detailed report with photo documentation

What is Infrared inspection?

Thermal, or infrared energy, is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye; it's the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. Unlike visible light, in the infrared world, everything with a temperature above absolute zero emits heat. Even very cold objects, like ice cubes, emit infrared. The higher the object's temperature, the greater the IR radiation emitted. Infrared allows us to see what our eyes cannot.

The infrared camera offers a noninvasive means of monitoring and diagnosing the condition of buildings. It provides immediate documentation of as-built or post-restoration quality, post-casualty cause and origin data, plumbing and building envelope water leakage, post-flood and fire water-damaged material assessment, energy use inefficiency, roofing, and even rodent or pest discovery.

Roofing Inspection:

Roof surveys will never be the same! Our infrared camera instantly shows you what's wet and what's dry. Water leakage is the number one factor that leads to damage insulation and substrate, corrosion and weakening of metal decks and building structure, even structural collapse and the growth of mold. Infrared cameras can instantly find the ultimate source with little or no physical disassembly of the premises and minimal disturbance of inhabitants.

Example:

Moisture Intrusion/Mold Inspection:

Moisture presents in roofs and walls can be detected with a sensitive infrared camera, under the right conditions. Infrared roof inspections are performed most effectively after sunset , when the roof gives off its heat energy accumulated during the day. The heat capacity of moisture soaked roof insulation is greater than of dry insulation. As a result, the moisture soaked roof areas appears quite clearly when performing an infrared scan.

Example:

Electrical Inspection :

Abnormal heating associated with high resistance or excessive current flow is the main cause of many problems in electrical systems. Infrared thermograph allows us to see these invisible thermal signatures of impeding damage before the damage occurs. When current flows through an electric circuit, part of the electrical energy is converted into heat energy. This is normal. But, if there is an abnormally high resistance in the circuit or abnormally high current flow, abnormally high heat is generated which is wasteful, potentially damaging and not normal.
